Week 1 Assignment CMIT 280 45-Memo

Summary
This memo serves as the notification of the IT departments intent to expand
available computing products for future expansion of the company.
Background
As the company begins to grow, resources for company growth will be needed.
The first step is to ensure that computing resources are available for new employees.
This also requires frequent enhancements to ensure we are competitive in today’s
market and do not fall behind. As of today, the easiest and quickest way to accomplish
both of those are through cloud computing.
Details
The IT department will shortly conduct research into the current networks
expansion of resources for future needs. The IT department will begin research into
cloud computing at the possible benefits to the company as it grows and expands into
the future. The goal is to find a cost effective solution that does not only last for a year,
but will last a few years into the future without major needs of expansion.

Step-by-step critique and fixes
1) Purpose and audience
- Goal is clear: notify leadership of IT’s plan to research cloud and network expansion.
- Recommendation: SaaS and possible cloud storage.

2) Organization
- Current sections (Summary, Background, Details) are fine, but “Next Steps,” “Benefits/Costs,” and “Risks/Security” would strengthen leadership decision-making.

3) Clarity and concision (examples to fix)
- “departments intent” → “department’s intent”
- “companies resources” → “company’s resources”
- “cloud computer” → “cloud computing”
- “at a moments notice” → “at a moment’s notice”
- “the companies resources” → “the company’s resources”
- Date format typo “03.14.201 8”
- Consider replacing vague phrases like “cost effective” with “cost-effective” and quantify where possible.

4) Evidence/references
- Links appear old; consider adding recent sources (e.g., total cost of ownership, elasticity, security posture). Use consistent citation style (APA/IEEE).

5) Actionability
- Add a timeline, success metrics, budget range, and responsibilities.

Polished memo (ready to submit/adapt)
To: Company Leadership
From: Robert Kayl, Professor/IT Advisor
Date: March 14, 2018
Subject: Network Expansion and Cloud Computing Strategy

Summary
This memo notifies leadership of IT’s plan to evaluate cloud-based solutions to support near-term hiring and sustained company growth. The initial recommendation is to prioritize Software as a Service (SaaS) and evaluate secure cloud storage to increase scalability, reduce time to provision, and keep software current.

Background
As the company grows, we must ensure that computing resources scale for new employees and that software remains current to maintain competitiveness. Cloud computing offers the fastest path to right‑sized capacity and continual feature/security updates without large upfront hardware or perpetual-license purchases.

Recommendation
- Adopt SaaS for core productivity and collaboration suites to ensure always‑current software and predictable, subscription-based costs.
- Evaluate cloud storage to provide secure, anywhere access to authorized users, improving mobility and productivity.
- Conduct a network assessment to confirm bandwidth, identity/access controls, and endpoint readiness for cloud adoption.

Benefits
- Scalability: Rapidly expand or contract resources on demand.
- Cost efficiency: Shift from capital expenditures to operating expenditures; pay only for consumption.
- Currency and security: Continuous patches and feature updates lower vulnerability exposure and support compliance.
- Time to value: Faster onboarding for new hires; reduced IT maintenance overhead.

Risks and Mitigations
- Vendor lock‑in: Favor standards-based services and exportable data formats; negotiate exit clauses.
- Data security/compliance: Require encryption at rest/in transit, strong identity and access management (e.g., SSO/MFA), logging, and audit trails.
- Availability: Choose providers with SLAs ≥99.9%, multi‑region redundancy, and documented disaster recovery.

Next Steps and Timeline
- Weeks 1–2: Requirements gathering (users, storage, apps, compliance).
- Weeks 3–4: Market scan and shortlist vendors; run total cost of ownership (TCO) analysis.
- Weeks 5–6: Pilot with 10–15 users; validate performance, security, and support.
- Week 7: Present findings, ROI, and decision package to leadership.
- Week 8+: Phased rollout (training, migration, decommissioning plan).

Preliminary Metrics for Success
- New‑hire provisioning time reduced by ≥50%.
- Help desk tickets related to software updates reduced by ≥40%.
- Uptime ≥99.9% with no critical security incidents in first 6 months.
- TCO savings vs. on‑prem baseline of ≥15% over three years.

- Add current vendor documentation and independent TCO studies.

Week 2 Assignment CMIT 280 45-White Paper Business Problem

Introduction
The company has run across a few different productivity issues with its employees in the last few years as the company continues to expand. One of the top issues that has been mentioned by management and employees is productivity in regards to document creation and sharing of company files and even company client business interactions.
Identified as the number one problem is the current and varied versions of Microsoft
Office that the company uses and the lack of ability to share documents in an easy way.
Employees frequently complain that they spend more time editing and formatting documents for consistency then doing their actual work. This is in part due to the different versions of Office installed on different computers. A simple solution to this problem would be to upgrade to Microsoft Office 365.

Week 4 Assignment CMIT 280 45-Memo

In order to expand the company into a cloud environment, the IT department recently tested two vendors: Microsoft Azure and Google Compute Engine. The goal of these tests was to determine which vendor could provide platform and infrastructure services to the company and provide future expansion capabilities. It has been determined that Azure would be the best fit for the Cloud Services company and the company's future growth. Background As the company starts to grow, resources for company growth will be needed. The first step is to ensure that computing resources are available for new employees. This also requires frequent enhancements to ensure that we are competitive in the market today, and the simplest and fastest way to accomplish both.

Week 5 Assignment CMIT 280 45-Memo

Cloud Security ConcernsAs the company grows and begins the implementation of cloudtechnology, we will need to address a few concerns before moving forward. These concerns are critical to our success with a migration and utilization ofcloud services.Company critical data and functions need to be outlinedand reviewed to determine best practices and solutions to any issues thatmay arise

Introduction10/26/2019Final Project3A few months ago I sent out a memo which stated that my IT office had conducted a high-level survey of the concept of “Cloud Computing” its applicability to the firm’s environment, and the current state of the firm’s IT infrastructure with respect to the concept. At this point we have finalized our decision using two cloud solutions which the firm would greatly benefit from, the cloud solutions are going from our private infrastructure to a hybrid cloud using SaaS type Microsoft Office 360.In my opinion this service will elevate the cost of infrastructure, maintenance, support and storage of our email, and SharePoint shared documents. We will be able to integrate our Microsoft product licensing which will reduce our cost of license per user. Our approach is to transfer these applications into the hybrid cloud using SaaS Office 360 as trail phase for one year in which during this time we can generate graphic reporting of the positive or negative value so we can make further decisions to migrate other backend office application to the cloud
